Abstract Formalism


  • Ø    It was an art movement during Second World War in Europe (1939-1945)
  • Ø    It was based on Existentialism (a philosophical theory based on human existence)
  • Ø    In America it received the name of Abstract Expressionism
  • Ø    It changed the conception of the world and the man
  • Ø    Artists needed to express their feelings on their  works
  • Ø    Pollock was an influential painter and the mayor figure. His techniques pouring and dripping paint is thought to be one of the origins of ACTION PAINTING.
  • Ø    Dorothy Parker was an American writer and poet. He was a defender of human rights
  • Ø    Mark Rothko created multiform paintings
  • Ø    Lucio Fontana was an Argentinian painter. He represented violence and aggression on his works
  • Ø    Francis Bacon was an European painter. He painted about people’s screams and pain.
